Chinese Accent Generator

Enter English text and hear it through Mandarin pronunciation. A Mandarin voice reading English produces the accent the natural way, by applying Chinese sound rules to your words. Listen online or download the MP3.

What makes English sound Mandarin

  • Final consonants fade: Mandarin syllables end only in vowels, n, or ng, so English endings like the d in “bad” or the k in “back” soften, drop, or pick up a small vowel.
  • Clusters break apart: “strength” packs consonant runs Mandarin never allows, so a helping vowel slips in between.
  • Th becomes s: “think” heads toward “sink,” “both” toward “bos.”
  • V leans toward w: “very” often lands as “wery.”
  • Tone habits reshape melody: a lifetime of meaning-carrying tones gives English syllables sharper, more separated pitch movements than native stress patterns produce.

Mandarin, not a monolith

This page uses a Mandarin voice, the standard of Beijing, national media, and most classrooms. Chinese-accented English from a Cantonese speaker in Hong Kong sounds different again, with its own final-consonant habits. If your project needs the Hong Kong flavor specifically, the Cantonese text to speech page carries that voice for Cantonese text; for English with a Mandarin accent, you are already in the right place.

Test sentences that expose the accent

  • “Cold world, old gold” ends four words in the ld cluster Mandarin lacks.
  • “Both boys thought so” walks through the th territory.
  • “Give me five” runs the v twice.
  • “Sixth strength test” is a cluster obstacle course.
  • “He said it, did it, meant it” ends every clause on a stop consonant.

Where it earns its keep

Casting and rehearsal for film and games. Teachers of English in China showing students the exact interference points, in both directions. Localization producers checking how instructions land when read with the accent their users actually hear. Feed it the real lines; generic samples teach generic lessons.

For Chinese itself, the Chinese text to speech page reads Mandarin text with natural voices, and the English to Chinese translator handles the conversion first.
